Emily Kearns

M.Arch, Architect AIBC, AAA

Emily is a registered Architect in British Columbia and managing partner at the firm of Ankenman Associates Architects Inc in Surrey, BC. She received a Bachelor of Environmental Design Studies from Dalhousie University in 2002, and a Master of Architecture degree from the same University in 2005. Emily has worked on a variety of projects and tasks while at AAAI, including master planning, design guidelines, custom single and multi-family housing, as well as commercial, industrial and most recently, the firm’s affordable housing projects. In 2016, she received the Fraser Valley Commercial Design Award for ‘Best Multi-Family Development’ and Urban Development Institute’s ‘Best Multi-Phased Community in BC’ award for River’s Edge, a 50-acre master-planned community in Chilliwack BC. She was part of the project team that received the same award from UDI in 2007 for Garrison Crossing, a 150-acre parcel also in Chilliwack. Both projects were commissioned by Canada Lands Company.

Emily has lots of experience maneuvering through the complexities of the municipal approval processes. For over 13 years, she has nurtured relationships throughout the Fraser Valley and Lower Mainland with city councils, municipal staff, consultants and contractors, as well as through extensive community involvement with various non-profit and community-based organizations. Proof of this is the recent honor of the 2020 ‘Women in Business Award’ in the Professional Category from the Surrey Board of Trade.

Emily has virtually no spare time with two children, volunteer responsibilities and managing an architectural practice; but when she does, she plays piano, enjoys cooking, drawing, fishing, travelling and playing basketball with her husband & kids.
